Cute Little Baby Quilt in Progress

I've had this cute little charm pack in my stash for a while now. I think it's called Hoo's in the Forest.

Decided to make it into a cheerful little baby quilt for my friends new baby girl.

I have 12 of 16 blocks done. I separated the big prints from the small ones. Placed the big ones in the centre.and chopped the small print ones into four squares for the corners.

I'm using white kona for the sashing.

Sorry for the poor photography and zero photo editing! Just being lazy and uploading direct from my phone!!

Matching placemats and WIP

Place mats finished! Thanks Martine for encouraging me to do free motion quilting on these. I really need to practice every day to improve! I was pleased with the result though. Problem is, I don't really know what I did differently for them to turn out better!!

Don't think I took photographs of the other one finished and its all wrapped up now! Not sure if you can see the quilting in these pictures.

Also working on another baby quilt. Here is the first block.

Have a lovely day!

W.I.P. Matching Placemats

Just in the middle of making some place mats to match the table runner I made for my mother in law. Had a few leftover bits of material so thought it would be nice.

Planning to bind with the same navy fabric as on the runner. Not sure how to quilt yet, lines or free motion?

Double Sided Reversible Table Runner

I promised my Mother-in-law a table runner for Christmas this year and I finished it just in time!

On one side it is Christmas fabrics arranged in stars following this tutorial by Jennifer at Ellison Lane Quilts.

I just did loopy quilting.  The white fabric has little white stars on.

I only had one charm pack, so had to adapt the way I made the stars a little bit from the tutorial.  I did cut them to the same size though so I have lots of little inch wide scraps!

Then on the other side I used a Harvest Moon charm pack and created this pattern, which was inspired by a quilt by Naomi. I chopped the squares in half then one side in half again.  Got lots of little bits left over so I can see me putting together some other bits over the coming months.

I have to say these wouldn't be my personal choice of colours (I let me MIL choose her own fabric for the non Christmas side) but I really liked the way it turned out.

I quilted with white thread on the Christmas side and a matching mustard colour on the other side. My quilting needs more practice, in many places I see sharp zig zags instead of nice curved loops and many occasions the stitch length is questionable.  But I have resolved to practice every day on scraps!!

I was so happy that I managed to get it lined up and neatly centralised on both sides  Binded it with a navy fabric that seemed to co-ordinate with both sides.

Thanks for taking a look.

Sewing Machine Pin Cushion

After seeing this great idea on Pinterest I decided to make one for my machine too! Plus one for a friend as well.

I modified mine a bit by using one continuous piece of elastic instead of ribbon. Plus on the blue spots and flowers one I used one piece of fabric instead of two so I could hide the seam at the back.

These are super handy little pincushions for stuffing pins in as you you sew!!

Christmas Picture

I love the work by Pilli Pilli. And have long loved these embroidery hoop pictures that she makes.  So this Christmas I decided to have a go myself.  And this is what I came up with.

The hoops are three inches in size so these are really cute!

Really not sure which one I like the best!!

But in the end I looped them all together to make a little trio.

Hearts & Music Burlap Banner

I made a couple of these burlap banners before Christmas.  I really liked this one made with music paper.  I bought a stack load of old music books at an antique centre that I am shamelessly cutting into for crafts!

I cut the hearts using a die on my Big Shot.  The red is felt.

Burlap / Hessian makes quite a mess when you sew with it and tiny bits come off.  The machine needed cleaning out a couple of times.

Have a lovely day. Polkadot Pretties
