Rainbow Paper Piecing Coming Together

Well I finished up the other three paper pieced blocks yesterday evening. And put it all together today. I ummed and aahed over whether to put it together like the tutorial or switch it up a bit. In the end I decided to walk my own walk and do it backwards lol!! So instead of creating a star, I made a hidden square!

Here it is without the black borders.  You can see how it was meant to look if you pop over to the tutorial at Add-Crafter

This was my first foray into paper piecing. I loved how perfect everything looks.  Buy I really hated tearing all that paper off the back lol!!

That's a lot of little bits!!

Now to decide on quilting. At first I thought I would do straight lines coming out from the centre just in the black sections. But then another idea popped into my head. When I first looked at the block it looked like one of those optical illusions with a rainbow square hiding behind the black cross (that reminds me of the Maltese cross). So I did wonder about quilting the rest of the cross in across the black cross to aide the illusion. Then continue quilting squares in the border. Now to decide whether to use plain black thread or variegated rainbow thread?  Any thoughts on colours or quilting appreciated...

In other news we have had a super busy week of school holidays with two fun trips added into the mix: Harry Potter World; and the Lion King Musical. Both were brilliant!

Just uploaded a Tour of my Craft Room if you'd like to sneak a peak:

W.I.P. Rainbows!

I stumbled across a paper piecing tutorial online recently. Pinned it and resolved to add it to my ever growing 'to do' list. So when I finished up the Little Red Riding Hood quilts the other day I made a start!

Not much to show. I have only done one quarter of the block. But have all my pieces ready for the other three.

The tutorial is over at add-crafter. It's really well written and easy to follow.

I intend to make this into a cushion cover.

Have a lovely day and thanks for stopping by.

Dolly Quilt & Valentine Gift!

Finished up making the dolly quilt for my friends little girl using the scraps from the Little Red Riding baby quilt.

I decided to add her name to the quilt.  And to quilt with loopy hearts since we were so close to valentines day!

I tried to keep the design similar to her baby sister's quilt.

Here is the back.

And speaking of Valentine's Day, this is what Cupid brought for me! With a bit of nudging of course!

So far I have found out that it is a Frister and Rossmann Model E from between 1920 and 1937.  I have so far managed how to load up and thread the shuttle bobbin and machine and have sewn a straight line! I just love that it has stood the test of time and still works!

Little Red Baby Quilt all Finished up!

Yay it's all finished! I just totally LOVE this quilt. If it was bigger I'd so want to keep it just for me! All my favourite colours.  In fact it fits right in to my kitchen!

This is the little Red Riding Hood Fabric line from Tasha Noel.

I ummed and ahhed over how to quilt this.  I was going to go for straight lines in the middle square and loops on the grey border.  But some of the squares don't line up perfectly (which really annoys me!!) so I decided to opt for loops all over.

I did attempt to quilt the little girl's name onto two of the squares.  Quite pleased with that, think it's a cute addition.

I quilted in a really pale grey colour.  And used the red and white polka dot for the binding.  Love the contrast between that and the grey.

My free motion quilting is definitely improving.  I even added in one random loopy flower and a little love heart for them to find!

I really like the back, almost more than the front! The little mushrooms are so sweet and the panel is just too cute!

Now I just need to make a dolls quilt for the baby's big sister with the scraps!

Fresh Sewing Day - a little late...

Wow January was busy!  So what have I been up to? Mainly I have been:
  • Setting up my Etsy Folksy Shops
  • Getting a Crafty Nomad Facebook Page set up link is in the sidebar
  • Commissioning someone to design me a new logo (watch this space!)
  • Planing my Sewing Classes and making some mock ups for them and writing the tutorials
  • Trying to get fit! (Hahahahahahahahahaha)
  • And a little bit of sewing added into the mix....
I've been working on a quilt top for a friend's baby.

I totally love this line of fabric by Tasha Noel called Little Red Riding Hood.

Not all my squares points match neatly, I think some of the charms were cut slightly smaller than others Grrrr!  Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it lol!

I love almost everything about it so far, I mean who couldn't love this colour combination and cute designs.....BUT I seem to have made a bit of a mistake placing that floral grey charm up in the top left corner. Doh! That one should have been in the body of the square, not so close to the grey floral borders.  My eye is constantly drawn to it! Oh well.....remember for next time!

Just got to piece the back, quilt it and bind it.  Here are some of the other things I have sewn up this month.

The pretty cushions.

Jade's cushion to match her Christmas Quilt.

And the rustic Valentine's Burlap Bunting. Available to buy here. (LOL!)

Have a lovely day blog hopping! Sharing at Lily's Quilts Fresh Sewing Day.
